<title>PRAGMATIC ROLES OF PARTICLE -sh- IN BANTU</title>
<link>https://ir.mnma.ac.tz/handle/123456789/386</link>
<description>PRAGMATIC ROLES OF PARTICLE -sh- IN BANTU
Simon, Chipanda
The paper describes the roles of Kisukuma sh particle in Kisukuma language classified zone F&#13;
unit 21. The sh particle seems to have portmanteau facet as native speakers use it in different&#13;
pragmatic contexts, such contextual roles be a magnet for the desired descriptions. The work&#13;
applied Relevancy Theory which gears cognitive and communication inferences. The study&#13;
applied pragmatic paradigm in which the communicative context housed the data, case study&#13;
design designed the study from Njigami village of Geita rural district in Geita region. The&#13;
envisioning of the sh gist was analysed qualitatively whereby words, phrases and sentences were&#13;
constructed using Leipzig glossing roles. The study used Sukuma population in which ten (10)&#13;
Sukuma native speakers aged 50-70 were selected purposively as they speak the language and&#13;
are Sukuma monolingual speakers. Focus group discussion, document analysis and intuition&#13;
technique were the methods of data hotchpotch. The discussion took two days, within the&#13;
discussion; the researcher jotted down notice and recorded the discussion pertinent to practices&#13;
done by informants in exemplifying the sh functions. The study found that the sh particle is a&#13;
portmanteau morph factorizing permission, compulsion role, emotive role, lexical role, numbers,&#13;
and caress role, requesting role, deverbal role, sanction role and causer roles. Basing on the sh&#13;
envisioning, it was recommended that the same particle can be studied in the scope of its&#13;
phonological manifestation domains, also other syntactic particles as in phrasal verbs,&#13;
conjunction and prepositions should be investigated to see how Bantu languages contribute to the&#13;
development of phonological and syntactic theories.

<title>NAMES FOR BUSINESS GAIN</title>
<link>https://ir.mnma.ac.tz/handle/123456789/385</link>
<description>NAMES FOR BUSINESS GAIN
Chipanda, Simon
The paper describes reasons as to why people change their personal Names. The act of changing&#13;
names is not only deeply rooted from person decision but also sociocultural implication. The&#13;
existing body of literature dwell on the factors for naming personal names, this attracts attentions&#13;
for the factors of personal names changing . The study used descriptive theory which argues that&#13;
the meaning of the name is identical to its descriptions and their referents satisfy these&#13;
explanations. The study used purposive sampling in selecting twenty informants aged 20-50, ten&#13;
from villages and the rest from the town area in Tanzania, snowball technique was used in&#13;
selecting them as they seemed to change their names. The study used qualitative approach under&#13;
descriptive theory in data analysis and discussion thematically. It was found that divorce,&#13;
business, articulation simplification, safety and security, homosexuality, religious conversion and&#13;
artistic purpose were circumstantial contexts of changing names. It was concluded that names&#13;
changing results into loosing and endangering sociocultural identities of human historical&#13;
heritage because African names serve not only as identifiers but also as powerful tools for&#13;
driving and develo

<title>Socio-cultural and psychological analysis of gender discriminative language</title>
<link>https://ir.mnma.ac.tz/handle/123456789/384</link>
<description>Socio-cultural and psychological analysis of gender discriminative language
Simon, Chipanda; Maunde, Regina M.
The paper examines on socio-cultural and psychological&#13;
analysis of language and gender discrimination. The&#13;
motivation behind the examination was due to the increase&#13;
of discriminated language assigned to gender. Literature&#13;
shows that lack of awareness and education in large trigger&#13;
discriminative language. This motivates investigation as the&#13;
suggested factors are questionable. The paper used deficit,&#13;
dominance and identity control theories in explaining&#13;
gender and language of discrimination. The study used an&#13;
ethnographical study and a case study design where&#13;
Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Academy of Tanzania was a&#13;
case for investigation. The study was qualitative in nature,&#13;
whereby words, phrases and sentences were used in the data&#13;
analysis stage. It was found that pitch rate, dressing styles,&#13;
body structures, class presentation and group discussion&#13;
were the areas where the gendered language was evidenced&#13;
in favour of females as the result words like buttocks, smooth&#13;
pitch, half necked, don’t be like a girl, be strong and rhythm&#13;
pitch result from women themselves against men. Thus,&#13;
discriminative words are mostly triggered by females&#13;
themselves. Based on the findings, it was concluded that&#13;
females should stand themselves; they should not think that&#13;
their body appearance and biological makeup trigger them&#13;
to create environments of gendered words.

<link>https://ir.mnma.ac.tz/handle/123456789/383</link>
<description>Mkakati wa Tafsiri Mkopo wa Istilahi za Kiingereza katika Kiswahili na Athari zake
Adolph, Editha; Chipanda, Simon
Makala hii inachunguza mkakati wa tafsiri mkopo wa istilahi za&#13;
Kiingereza katika Kiswahili na athari zake kwa kuangazia uga wa&#13;
biolojia, fizikia na kemia kupitia vidahizo teule vya Kamusi ya&#13;
Biolojia, Fizikia na kemia (2012). Azma kuu ya uchunguzi huu ni&#13;
kutathmini mchango wa tafsiri mkopo wa msamiati wa Kiingereza&#13;
katika suala zima la kukuza lugha ya Kiswahili. Kwa mujibu wa&#13;
makala hii eneo hili halijapewa aula miongoni mwa mada&#13;
mbalimbali za tafsiri zilizokwishachunguzwa. Hii&#13;
imemuhamasisha mtafiti kulishughulikia eneo hili. Data ya makala&#13;
hii ilikusanywa uwandani katika idara na taasisi zilizo katika jiji la&#13;
Dar es Salaam kwa njia ya usaili, hojaji na chanzo cha data cha&#13;
maktabani. Idara na taasisi zilizohusishwa katika ukusanyaji wa&#13;
data ni: Idara ya Lugha za Kigeni na Isimu, TATAKI kutoka Chuo&#13;
Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam pamoja na BAKIZA. Idara na taasisi hizi&#13;
zinapatikana mkoani Dar es Salaam Wilaya ya Ubungo ambapo&#13;
mtafiti alifanikiwa kudodosa na kufanya mahojiano ya ana kwa ana&#13;
kwa wataalamu wa tafsiri. Aidha, data ilikusanywa kutoka katika&#13;
matini mbalimbali kutoka chanzo cha data cha maktabani.&#13;
Mathalani, kamusi, tasinifu, majarida na vitabu kadhaa kulingana&#13;
na mada ya makala hii. Malengo ya makala hii yametimizwa kwa&#13;
kuongozwa na Nadharia ya Istilahi za Kisayansi iliyoasisiwa na&#13;
Kiingi (1989) na kuendelezwa na Kiingi (1992) na Kiingi (1998) na&#13;
Mwaro-Were (2000, 2001). Halikadhalika, data ya makala hii&#13;
imechambuliwa kwa kutumia mkabala wa maelezo. Aidha,&#13;
matokeo yameonesha kuwa Kiswahili kimejipatia istilahi lukuki&#13;
katika tasnia ya biolojia, fizikia pamoja na kemia kupitia mkakati wa&#13;
tafsiri mkopo. Makala hii ni muhimu kwa wanaisimu kwani&#13;
inabainisha istilahi mbalimbali za lugha ya Kiingereza katika uwanja&#13;
wa biolojia, fizikia pamoja na kemia zilizoingizwa katika Kiswahili&#13;
kupitia tafsiri mkopo. Inapendekezwa kuwa watafiti wa lugha
